Cascade model vs, daily fees:
Many architects are trying to follow the "cascade-model" that is used in industry, to determine which phase of a process will follow which other phase. The idea is that after a certain work has been accomplished, a "milestone" or "benchmark" will define that this work is now completed, and the project will move to the next level or into the next phase. Typically, a milestone between project phases would be a written approval of the client, followed by the payment of the relevant section. These phases can be called:
I = SD, Schematic Design (US) / Conceptual, Preliminary Design (GB) / Vorentwurf (D)
II = DD, Design Development (US) / Final Design (GB) / Entwurf (D)
III = CD, Construction Documents (US) / Construction- Detail Design (GB) / Ausführungsplanung (D)
IV = DC, Design Correspondence (US) / Tendering, Contracting (GB) / Ausschreibung, Vergabe (D)
V = CC, Contractor Communication (US) / Supervision (GB) / Bauüberwachung (D)
The underlying idea is that a project can move smoothly from one phase to another. In reality, the architectural design process does not take place in a waterfall-type assembly line - like in industry. The process is way more complex and meandering and takes place in parallel, intercepted and repeated steps. Therefore it is often difficult to define precise benchmarks ore milestones. Nevertheless, if you wish to follow this model, we can calculate the costs for the individual phases based on practical experience and guidelines from the "fee structure for engineers and architects".
Daily fees:
Instead of charging for phases and milestones, our service usually provides a complete package to guide you -our client- through the sometimes chaotic processes until the desired result is achieved. Independent from theoretical phases we will meet you in the beginning, find out what your needs and desires are, and stay by your side all the way to the delivery of your product. Our service is charged by daily fees, so you stay in control of your actual costs. It will always remain in your hand to add or reduce services, so that the realization of your project becomes a flexible, predictable and pleasant experience.
The available Service Spectrum:
A) If you have a limited budget but desire a good result; we can deliver within a generous time frame.
B) On the other hand, you may achieve a good result within a shorter span of time if money is not an issue.
C) If quality is not your priority and you need a quick result done for low costs; we can meet your deadline (e.g. for temporary or event-related solutions).
Just let us know your priorities.
Important things should be discussed person to person. Your project is important to us. So contact us for an appointment.
